Why I Left Instagram For Good

I know that title sounds crazy, but it’s the honest truth - I left Instagram behind FOREVER. It might have been the hardest decision I ever made, but also maybe the best!

A little over a week ago, I went off of social media to start a 2-month social media detox. After 9 days, I decided to never go back. I realized that there was absolutely no need to have Instagram in my life.

Sure, there are a lot of arguments against that: it’s great for free self-promotion, you can see what your friends are up to, you can get inspired, you can connect with people all over the world! It wasn’t easy for me to give up all of these things, especially promoting my films! But at the end of the day, the disadvantages outweighed the advantages for me.

Instagram had become a place where I wasted hours of my time -endlessly scrolling, searching hashtags, and filling my mind with things that were frankly worthless. Not that ALL of it was worthless, but I could have been filling my time with things that would help others, improve my character, and even change the world for the better! And I wasn’t.

The Bible tells us to flee temptation and clearly, Instagram had become a great temptation for me. So it was definitely time to leave it in the dust, throw aside FOMO, and get on with my life. People lived without screens for thousands of years, so I should be able to live without ONE app.

It’s an incredibly freeing feeling to leave something behind that you know was hindering you! What I’m doing may not be for everyone, but sometimes we need to disconnect to reconnect with what’s truly important. For me, that’s my relationship with Jesus and living my life solely for Him!

So farewell, Instagram! Hello, freedom!
